KO-TONE
Spiral Xylophone

exhibited
“HERMES SECRET PARTY” in COPENHAGEN, 2017

KO-TONE is a limited edition automatic playing device with no electricity but only with a power of nature, that dir_, a collective artists of a composer, visual artists and other technicians created. We define this instrument as a “music” itself, which wouldn’t be categorized in one genre but the mixture of art, design and music that is much beyond borders.

A ball plays the sound as it goes down unsteadily, it falls off sometimes. But the movement we can’t help cheering up seems some how like our lives. It fails sometimes. And it could go straight down without swaying if the adjustment was determined that way. But we like adjusting it purposely with an unstable way.  It is alright to have a stable life but we prefer to go sometimes too far, making mistakes and living with challenges. You may find the xylophone showing who did the adjustment of it.

The harmony of the nature and human beings is tended to be forgotten nowadays despite it is extremely important for our society. We are fundamentally a part of nature. We are obviously sustained by the harmony with nature.

The tones played by this work that won’t need any electric power would suggest something to our daily lives.  Like the title of this tune by Bach. Johann Sebastian Bach – Joy of Man’s Desiring BWV147
